Mechanism of Action
Ondansetron selectively blocks 5-HT3 serotonin receptors located peripherally on vagal nerve terminals and centrally in the chemoreceptor trigger zone. This dual-site blockade effectively prevents the emetic reflex triggered by cytotoxic agents and surgical anaesthesia.
